Frequently asked questions

Which Revit version do I need?

Revit 2026 or newer. Older versions are coming soon; we say it before you pay.

Is it really native Revit?

Yes. Buildings are Revit walls, floors per level and roofs you can select and edit, on a Toposolid terrain, not an imported mass or DWG. Windows, balconies and storefronts are light model geometry so the file stays small.

Feet or meters?

Both: pick the units before you create the model. Each comes from its own Revit template with levels, views and sheets.

Is the model georeferenced?

Yes. It comes with real coordinates and true north, so you can link it with survey or site files.

Where does the data come from?

Buildings, streets, parks and water from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). Heights and terrain from public LiDAR (USGS 3DEP and Texas) where available. The map shows the data quality of each area before you download.

How big can the area be and what does it cost?

Up to 50 acres free (2 models a week, 3 with a .edu email). Larger areas up to 1,000 acres and Premium are paid; see Pricing. Students get 30% off with a verified .edu email.

How long does it take?

The 3D preview appears in seconds. The Revit model is built in the cloud in about 2–4 minutes and we email you when it is ready.

Can I use it in my projects?

Yes, in your own projects, including commercial work. You may not resell the models as a dataset. Keep the OpenStreetMap credit.

What if something is wrong with my model?

Write to support@bimcitydrop.com. Paid models that fail are refunded automatically, and any purchase can be refunded within 14 days, no questions asked.

Does it work outside Texas?

Yes, anywhere in the world. Outside the areas with LiDAR, heights are estimated from OpenStreetMap (levels and tags); the quality colors on the map tell you what to expect.

I'm a professor. Can my whole class use the same site?

Yes. Send your class the campus page or a shared area link; class codes with Premium included are available for studios. Write to support@bimcitydrop.com.

How long are my files kept?

Download your model soon after it is ready. Files may be deleted after 30 days; you can rebuild the same area from My models at any time.
